Verona presents the grandest of all grand opera.  The magnificent Roman amphitheatre has the capacity of ten opera houses, and the stage sets alone occupy half an acre.  To create the spectacle the cast numbers hundreds.  To be part of the audience is a great privilege, shared by opera lovers from all over the world.  The performance begins as the sky darkens and the stars appear, and the arena comes to life with candles held by thousands of spectators.  The well-known set pieces of the great dramatic operas keep the audience spellbound, and if the mood is right, a great choral piece may be repeated.  This holiday is based in the historical centre of Verona, within walking distance of the arena and one performance is included.
