La Cenerentola is given in the production created by Sir Peter Hall in 2005, Don Giovanni in the production by Jonathan Kent for this year’s summer season. As usual, this is an opportunity for gifted young singers and conductors to display their talents in first class productions in the wonderful Glyndebourne opera house.
The countryside of East Sussex will be at its autumnal best as will the gardens at Glyndebourne. This year we stay at the beautifully restored Pelham House Hotel in Lewes. Mrs Maggie King will again be accompanying you in Lewes and on the visits to Glyndebourne.
We have best tickets for all performances.
Hotel: This year we are pleased to have found the Pelham House Hotel, centrally located in the delightful town of Lewes. Pelham House is a 16th-century Town House with gardens which overlook the South Downs. It has been sympathetically restored to create a stylish interior that combines elegance and history. The restaurant, where we have one dinner, is one of the oldest rooms in the building with beautiful wood panelling.

Performance Details
La Cenerentola
La Cenerentola is based on Perrault’s traditional fairy story of Cinderella, but like all good comedy it has an underlying seriousness of purpose. It contains some of the cleverest ensembles in all of Rossini.
Don Giovanni
Mozart composed Don Giovanni at the height of his powers. The story is driven by the vengeance sought by the women he has wronged and the Commendatore whom he has murdered. Divine retribution is the fitting end to his arrogant disregard for earthly morals. It contains some of Mozart’s most exquisite music.
